Difficulties

Many State bodies are not ready to accept Hockey India but the Federation of International Hockey (FIH) says that a democratic elected body is absolsting 2010 Men's Hockey World Cup. This is a problem faced by Hockey India.

Logo

Hockey India launched its own logo in a grand ceremony on July 24, 2009, in India. It resembles Ashok Chakra of Indian flag. It is made up of field hockey sticks..

Latest Development

In a significant way forward, Indian Hockey Federation (I.H.F) & Hockey India (H.I) on 25 July 2011 signed an agreement leading up to formation of a joint executive board which shall perform the function of the National Sports Federation for field hockey. The agreement was signed after long deliberations on the basis of an agreement formula proposed by Ajay Maken, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports. This breakthrough administrative arrangement will end the duality existing in field hockey for more than 2 ½ years.

The combined body which will work towards a formal merger will undertake:

The annual National Championship will be jointly hold by I.H.F. & H.I. after holding joint selection of state teams and the name of H.I. would suitably be changed to “Bharat Hockey”, “ Hockey Bharat” or “India Hockey” or any other mutually agreed name.

Maken expressed the hope that this step would end the prevalent uncertainty for players and participation of our teams in International Tournaments and would eventually lead to the welfare of our national game.
