Hinterland Aviation is a regional airline and charter company based at Cairns Airport in Far North Queensland, Australia. The business operates scheduled flights from Cairns to Cooktown, Lizard Island, Bloomfield River, Kowanyama and Pormpuraaw. It also conducts tourist transfer services to Bloomfield Lodge for its parent company Trailfinders, owner of the resort. Established in 1984, there are 11 propeller aircraft in the fleet.[1]

History

The airline was established in 1984 as a charter operation servicing the mining industry, Hinterland Aviation Pty Ltd was acquired by retail travel firm Trailfinders in 1992 and developed a firm footing in the tourism charter industry. The engineering division started in 1995 to support the local needs of the Far North aviation industry.[2]

From its Cairns base scheduled airline services operate to Cooktown, Lizard Island, Bloomfield River, Kowanyama and Pormpuraaw. The airline also operates a number of charter flights on demand as well International Medical Evacuation flights into Papua New Guinea.
