Hijacked journal

A hijacked journal is a legitimate academic journal that offers print-only access and for which a bogus website has been created by a malicious third party for the purpose of fraudulently offering academics the opportunity to rapidly publish their research online for a fee.[1]

Background

In 2012, online hackers and website hijackers began hijacking the print-only journals by registering a domain name and creating a fake website under the title of hijacked journals.[2]

The journal hijackers began by creating counterfeit websites for the Swiss journal Archives des Sciences. In 2012 and 2013 they hijacked more than 20 scientific journals.[1] In some case forgers find their victim in conferences, they extract authors emails from papers and send call for paper and cheat them.[3]
