The Highway Secondary is a public secondary (O - level) day school for boys located in Nairobi's South B suburb, Kenya.[1] The school is named for the Mombasa Highway that runs along the school's southern perimeter. The school is classified as a provincial day school.
History
The school was created as an Asian school for O-level boys and A-level for girls and boys on 19 February 1962. This was concurrent with the conversion of Ngara Girls' High School a boys and girls school into an all-girls school.[1] The headmaster along with all the male teaching staff and the boys were moved to the site of the present school.
The school was officially opened on 6 July 1962 by Hon. Lawrence G. Sagini, Minister of Education. In 1963 the school enrolled its first four black students.[2]
Motto
The school's Latin motto which appears on the school badge is 'Vis Atque Dignitas' - 'With pride and dignity'. The motto is 'Endeavour to Excel'.
School Anthem
The Highway community we aim to conquer,
Keeping our motto endeavor to excel,
To our nation Kenya,
The best be given,
Allegiance is our goal,
Through self discipline.
Chorus:
Trusted and free,
Who are obedient,
We do our best,
Our very best,
Working as one,
Being responsible of our selves,
We know we will conquer (x2)
First to our government,
Allegiance must be accorded,
Our Parents and Guardians,
Respect be given,
Education A right to be given,
To all generations to better our lives
chorus:
Together we obey the office
protecting the good name of our school
our relations are cordial
pride and dignity we maintain
working with our teachers
working with our own minds
