HighCom Security is a Clearwater, Florida-based manufacturer of security products and personal protective ballistic armor, including tactical body armor. The company develops, manufactures and tests body armor for military and law enforcement customers around the world.
History
HighCom was founded in 1997 in San Francisco. Its research and development, manufacturing, and distribution facility is located in Columbus, Ohio.
In addition to producing products under its own brand, it also works with other soft armor companies as a subcontractor, as well as a private label/OEM manufacturer, for military and law enforcement agencies.[1] The company supplies the U.S. government and its allies with body armor, and supplied thousands of pieces of armor to troops in the Iraq and Afghanistan theaters.[1][2] for armor and other equipment[3] and the United Nations.[4]
On February 18, 2011, Clearwater, Florida-based BlastGard International, a developer of proprietary blast mitigation materials, announced it would purchase HighCom;[5][6] the purchase was completed on March 16, 2011.[7]
Products
The company offers hard armor plates, soft armor vests, ballistic helmets, ballistic shields, ballistic blankets, riot and civil defense equipment, as well as civilian armor products.[8]
The company is currently ISO 9001:2008-certified for the scope of design, development, manufacturing, assembly, and distribution of armor and ballistic products.[9] On 21 July 2014, HighCom Security became the first company to achieve a BA 9000 certification by Perry Johnson Registrars, Inc.[10]
