Hesteskoen Nunatak

Hesteskoen Nunatak (71°52′S 27°15′E / 71.867°S 27.250°ECoordinates: 71°52′S 27°15′E / 71.867°S 27.250°E) is a horseshoe-shaped nunatak, 2,350 metres (7,700 ft) high, standing 4 nautical miles (7 km) north of Balchen Mountain in the Sør Rondane Mountains of Antarctica. It was mapped by Norwegian cartographers in 1946 from air photos taken by the Lars Christensen Expedition, 1936–37, and in 1957 from air photos taken by U.S. Navy Operation Highjump, 1946–47; it was named Hesteskoen (the horseshoe) by the Norwegians.[1]
