Hertford East railway station is one of two stations in Hertford in Hertfordshire, England, the other being Hertford North station. The station is 24 1⁄4 miles (39.0 km) north of London Liverpool Street and is the terminus of the Hertford East Branch of the West Anglia Main Line with train services provided by Abellio Greater Anglia. There are two platforms, although one is only used at peak times.
History
The current station, which was designed by W.N. Ashbee, was opened by the Great Eastern Railway on Monday 27 February 1888, replacing a station further to the east which dated from the opening of the branch line from Broxbourne in 1843. The station was listed in 1974 as a Grade II* listed building;[1] in 1996 the buffer lights on Platform One were separately listed in their own right.[2]
Services and Amenities

The typical off-peak service from the station is two trains per hour to London Liverpool Street via Tottenham Hale. During peak times there is one train per hour to Stratford station also via Tottenham Hale as well as the standard three trains per hour to London Liverpool Street, but two are routed via Tottenham Hale and one is routed via Seven Sisters. These services are mostly operated by British Rail Class 317 units. On Sundays most services are operated by British Rail Class 315 units and routed via Southbury and Seven Sisters. A few trains on Monday to Friday start or terminate at Broxbourne.

The station benefits from both a kiosk and a taxi service.
Proposed developments
Some options of the proposed East West Rail Link involve reopening a route between Hertford East railway station and Hertford North railway station; however a 2009 discussion paper noted that while "the new connection appears technically feasible, doubts must be cast over its public acceptability and deliverability".[3]
There is a proposal for Oyster cards to be accepted on the Hertford East route by Abellio Greater Anglia.
