Heroes & Icons (H&I) is a United States television network airing on digital terrestrial television stations and primarily airs classic television series from the 1950s through the 1990s, with a focus on dramatic and action-oriented programming. The network is owned and operated by Weigel Broadcasting, and launched on September 29, 2014.
History
Heroes & Icons was soft launched on September 28, 2014 on Weigel owned stations WWME-CD Channel 23.2 and WCIU-TV Channel 26.4 in Chicago and in Milwaukee on WMLW-TV Channel 49.3. H&I was started at the request of Weigel's existing networks' affiliates to increase their programming options, along with filling in holes coming up in Weigel's subchannel lineups as their existing affiliation agreements for the former co-owned This TV (now controlled by Tribune Media) began to expire; an additional factor was the move of sister network Movies! in the Milwaukee market from WMLW to Hearst Television's WISN-DT2.
The network also launched in the South Bend, Indiana market, along with the major cable systems in the Chicago and Milwaukee markets using existing carriage.[2] Weigel went with a soft launch to tinker around with the network's schedule, along with adding additional programming to the network.[3] The networks added additional stations by early December 2014 with stations signing on one of Weigel's South Bend stations, KCSG Salt Lake City and KCCI in Des Moines.[4] With the network's schedule stabilized, Weigel moved the network in Milwaukee to WDJT-TV's third subchannel on March 5, 2015, with that signal's former network, This moving to WMLW-DT3 in its place.[5]
Current programming
H&I also broadcasts news from TouchVision in the morning.[4]
