In 2012 the Hermes-Sojitz investment foundation was established with involvement of Asian and European shareholders.

2012 was marked by the beginning of the development of deposits of useful minerals. Geological research of the foundation is based on search and exploration of deposits of hydrocarbon and hematite (iron ore) on the territory of Western Africa.[3][4]

In 2013 the Hermes-Sojitz foundation representative office was opened in Russia. In the course of G20 summit that took place in Saint Petersburg in 2013 the head of the representative office of the foundation in Russia Oleg Yantovsky, carried out business negotiations and gathered support of the President of Senegal, Macky Sall.[5]

2014 was marked by the beginning of implementation of a major investment program for the development of fish processing industry in Western Africa, including building of four fish processing facilities. Opening the first surimi (a particular kind of fish spread) producing complex is scheduled for the first quarter of 2015. All other Hermes-Sojitz facilities projects have been launched this year. Total amount of investments is EUR 170 million.[6][7][8]

In 2014 Hermes-Sojitz foundation made an investment into modernization of production equipment of the Karelian Industrial Complex which is the only mass producer of surimi in Northwestern Federal District of Russia. This will result in increase of the production capacity of the enterprise to 2–2.5 thousand tons of products per month.[9][10]

2014 was marked by the beginning of work for the new international index of readiness of countries for the development of industrial projects according to the environmental regulations – Eco Investment Index (ECI).[11]

2014 was marked by launching the development direction of growth for territories in Western Africa. Investment portfolio is represented in the area of residential and commercial real estate of premium and business class. Amongst the prospective projects of the foundation are a multi-functional 65 storey high skyscraper, a residential complex of 25 stories, and a shopping mall of 100,000 sq. meters. During the implementation of these projects the most recent achievements in energy saving construction, design and engineering are used.[12][13]

In 2014 due to the decision of the Blackstone Group investment company to suspend its operation in Russia, as well as the decision of such players as EBRD and IFC to put freeze on the development of projects, the Hermes-Sojitz foundation is now considering making investments in these projects in Russia.[14]
