Herefordshire Council election, 2000

The first election to Herefordshire Council occurred on 4 May 2000,[1] following the council's reconstitution as a unitary authority in 1998; following Herefordshire's separation from the short lived administrative county of Hereford and Worcester formed by a merger of Herefordshire and Worcestershire in 1974.[2]

Elections were held for all of the new authority's 58 seats and resulted in the council passing into "no overall control" with the Liberal Democrats, who held 21 seats, forming the largest group in the council chamber.[3]
