Herbert Breiter Leonard (October 8, 1922–October 14, 2006)[1] was an American producer and writer. Leonard was a production manager at Screen Gems for many years.
Leonard produced and was the production manager for many television shows for Screen Gems. Some include The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin, Circus Boy, Naked City, and Route 66.
Early life
Herbert B. Leonard was born Herbert Breiter Leonard on October 8, 1922 in New York, New York. He was born to parents of Jewish descent. He went to New York University in which he played football. NYU was his alma mater. Shortly after he graduated from New York University, he was drafted into the military where he served during the Second World War. He was a pilot and instructor in the Navy.[2]
1950s and 1960s Television
Leonard produced some of the most influential television series of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Both "Naked City" and "Route 66" were triumphs, and certainly touchstones in television history. Both series dealt with well-established regular characters interacting with guest stars in both dramatic and comedic situations. He may also be fondly remembered by fans young and old for his production of "The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin" in the early 1950s.
