Henry Michael Herlong, Jr.
Henry Michael Herlong, Jr. (born June 1, 1944) is a United States federal judge.
Born in Washington, D.C., Herlong received a B.A. from Clemson University in 1967 and a J.D. from the University of South Carolina Law Center in 1970. He was in the United States Army Reserve Captain from 1967 to 1973. He was a Legislative assistant, U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond from 1970 to 1972. He was an assistant U.S. Attorney of the Criminal Division, Greenville, South Carolina from 1972 to 1976. He was in private practice in Edgefield, South Carolina from 1976 to 1983. He was an assistant U.S. Attorney of the Civil Division, Columbia, South Carolina from 1983 to 1986.
Herlong was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina. Herlong was nominated by President George H. W. Bush on April 9, 1991, to a new seat created by 104 Stat. 5089. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on May 9, 1991, and received his commission on May 14, 1991. He assumed senior status on June 1, 2009.
