Henry Hugglemonster is an Irish-British animated television series produced by Spiffy Pictures. It is based on the best selling book I'm a Happy Hugglewug written and illustrated by Niamh Sharkey.[1] The series premiered on Disney Junior channels in the United Kingdom and Ireland on February 8, 2013 and in the United States on April 5.[2][3]
Premise
The series revolves around the daily life of Henry Hugglemonster and his slightly chaotic but loving family, living in the suburban town of Roarsville. Everyone in Roarsville is a friendly, fun-loving monster. Henry's experiences with his family often lead to problems, so Henry must use his problem-solving skills to try and find a way to solve the problems and conflicts he is presented with in his daily life. Every episode features one or more original song.
Common Sense Media stated that many of the episodes include "[b]asic preschool skills like counting and sequences".[4]
Characters
Hugglemonster family
- Henry Hugglemonster (Lara Jill Miller) - A 5-year-old monster whose horns resemble those of a jester's cap. He never backs down from a problem, because he believes he and his family can "always find a way." His favorite sport is huggleball, a game similar to soccer except that it is legal to carry the ball into the goal. He is energetic, and usually very happy. His catchphrases are "Roarsome!" and "Hugglemonsters always find a way!". His middle name is Alfonzo.
- Summer Hugglemonster (Hynden Walch) - Henry's older sister is 6 years old. As with all female monsters in the show she wears shoes, whereas the males go barefoot. In the book, Henry's sister's name name was Lola Hugglewug. Her hobbies are putting on plays, singing, and dancing.
- Cobby Hugglemonster (Chiara Zanni) - Henry and Summer's older brother Cobby is a skilled inventor. His inventions come in handy whenever there's a problem. He addresses Henry as "Li'l Bro". He is 7 years old. His real name is Cooper.
- Daddo Hugglemonster (Tom Kenny) - Henry's father is a mailman who can be a bit forgetful at times. His talents are huggle-juggling, which he often does when making the family's famous dinner. The character was born as Mark McScream.
- Grando Hugglemonster (Tom Kenny) - Henry's grandfather. Born as Noah Stanley McScream.
- Momma Hugglemonster (Lori Alan) - Henry's mother, and also a talented musician who plays every instrument. She is also the wife of Daddo. Born as Jenna McScream.
- Ivor Hugglemonster (Kari Wahlgren) - Henry, Cobby, and Summer's baby brother. He cannot talk yet, nor fly.
- Nan-Oh Hugglemonster (Grey DeLisle) - Henry's grandmother. Born as Vera McScream.
- Beckett (voiced by a dog) - The Hugglemonster family's pet monster dog.
- Harry Hugglemonster - Henry's four armed cousin. The character appears in "Huggsgiving Day".
- Dexter and Dee Hugglemonster - Henry's aunt and uncle and Harry's parents.

- Denzel Dugglemonster (Cree Summer) - Henry's best friend who has a passion for digging underground tunnels. His catchphrase is "Grr-ocious!".
- Herold Dugglemonster (Rob Paulsen) - Denzel's father who works as a baker.
- Maude Dugglemonster - Denzel's mother.
- Grammo Dugglemonster (Cree Summer) - Denzel's grandmonster. She is one of the "Rapping Grandma's" in the song, "Knit it Up", as featured in the episode "Knit-O-Bot".

- Gertie Growlerstein (Grey DeLisle) - Henry's smartest pal, who is a math genius.

- Estelle Enormomonster (Grey DeLisle) - Henry's large friend, energetic and optimistic. She's a gentle giant, being at least 3 times as tall as Henry. Estelle knows how to play the harp.

- Ernestine Enormomonster (Brenda Blethyn) - Estelle's mother.

- Captain Hollander - Hollander is an airship pilot who appears in season 1. He is hard of hearing and tends to mishear what others say to him. He sings in a tenor voice.
