Henry Gurney Prisoners School
Henry Gurney Prisoners School or Sekolah Tahanan Henry Gurney and Sekolah Henry Gurney is a prisoner school in Telok Mas, Malacca, Malaysia.
History
Established in 1949, it underwent name changes for three times before its current name was adopted upon its official opening by Sir Henry Gurney on 15 May 1950. It is one of the five Henry Gurney Schools (Sekolah Henry Gurney or SHG) which caters to juvenile criminals. The Malacca branch specializes in male convicts.
Programs
The rehabilitation program run in this center is divided into three stages:
- hard labor - for new entrants or rule-breakers
- normal chores
- technical labor - includes welding and basic engineering
Although this center mainly specializes in vocational leanings, it also provides academic training. However most trainees are inclined to take vocational training.
