Henrik Horn

Henrik Horn

Henrik Horn (May 22, 1618 – February 22, 1693) was a freiherr, military, field marshal (1665), admiral (1677) and member of the Privy Council of Sweden (1677).

Henrik Horn distinguished himself in the Polish campaign and was appointed Governor-General of Bremen-Verden in 1666. In 1665 Horn became a field marshal, in 1666 Governor General of Bremen-Verden, in 1677 a member of the Swedish Reichsrat. As Governor General he commanded Swedish forces in 1675/76 against the allied German armies during the Bremen-Verden Campaign, but eventually had to surrender.

In spite of the fact that he had little experience of sailing, he was given the command of the Swedish Navy in 1677. The same year, he was defeated by Denmark in the Battle of Køge Bay.

In 1678, he was appointed as the Commander-in-Chief of Livonia.
