Henichesk Raion (Ukrainian: Генічеський район) is one of the 18 administrative raions (a district) of the Kherson Oblast in southern Ukraine. Its administrative center is located in the city of Henichesk.
The raion has a 10% Crimean Tartar minority (in 2 villages even 50%).[1] This minority is a result of a 1967 Soviet decree that restored Crimean Tartar rights that they had lost during the 1944 deportation of the Crimean Tatars.[1][2] Because de jure they were not allowed to return to the Crimean Tartar homeland Crimea some of them settled in places near Crimea, like Henichesk Raion.[1]
