Hearts of Darkness is a multi-talent big band whose original material absorbs influences from 70s afrobeat to modern hip hop, 60s and 70s soul and funk, as well as reaching back to 1920s big band jazz. The sound evokes memories of Count Basie, James Brown, and Fela Kuti as seductive vocal and percussive horn choruses flow around cutting hip hop verses and stretched out instrumental solos, all founded upon a rhythm section.
