Heartist is an American rock band that started in Southern California in 2011.[1] They formed in early 2011 after guitarists Jonathan Gaytan and Tim Koch left their band, found Bryce Beckley, who had also left his band, Evan Ranallo[1] and Matt Marquez, who was playing with Norma Jean.[3] Following the departure of Gaytan, Robby DeVito took the reigns as guitarist. They released their first full-length album, Feeding Fiction in 2014. It was produced by David Bendeth, who has previously worked with artists such as Paramore, Of Mice and Men, and Bring Me the Horizon. On April 14, 2014, the band released the first single, Pressure Point, off of their first album.[4]
Their first work, an EP called Nothing You Didn't Deserve,[5] was released on October 16, 2012.[6] Sputnikmusic called the album "not reinventing the wheel or anything, but for the most part it's a concise effort from a talented group. It's enjoyable and it's solid all around. And while it's not the most original, it's impressive nonetheless. Don't blow this EP off for the simple fact that it's been done before. Go into it with an open mind. It definitely should not be ignored".[7]
