Health Research Authority

The Health Research Authority (HRA) is a Special Health Authority of the Department of Health in the United Kingdom that was established on 1 December 2011.^[1] Its formation came as a result of reorganisation of the National Health Service (NHS) in England outlined in the Health and Social Care Act 2012.

The HRA exists to provide a unified national system for the governance of health research. It has taken on the functions of the National Research Ethics Service.^[1]
