Havigannada dialect

Havigannada or Havyaka Bhaashe or Havyaka Kannada is the native language of Havyakas.[1] It is a dialect of Kannada.[2]

Usage

Havigannada is used only by Havyakas. It uses similar verbs and words as mainstream Kannada. However, it has more in common with Halegannada (which is not in use today). This might be the reason why even native Kannadigas find it difficult to comprehend it for the first time.

It is spoken in the regions of Sagar, Sirsi, Yellapur Siddapur, Honnavar, Kumta, Puttur, Gokarna, Hosanagara, Sullia, Kasaragod, etc. where there is a higher density of Havyakas in relation to other places.

In some parts like Uttarakannada District like Kumta, Honnavara, Sirsi and Siddapur, often Neuter gender is used instead of Feminine gender.

Havigannada was partly used in Sandalwood films: Nammoora Mandara Hoove and Naayi Neralu which was shot in and around Yana.
