Hathut Records

Hathut Records (and its imprints hatART, HatOLOGY, hatMUSICS, hatNOIR) is a Swiss record label specialising in jazz and contemporary classical music.

Founded in 1975 by Werner X. Uehlinger (born 1935) to document the work of saxophonist / trumpeter Joe McPhee. Though initially primarily a jazz label, Hathut (under the patronage of UBS) would later add avant garde classical composers including Karlheinz Stockhausen, John Cage, Scelsi and others to its catalogue.

Early important recordings include work by artists such as Steve Lacy, Anthony Braxton, and pianist Cecil Taylor.

Other hathut recording artists have included Mike Westbrook, Dave Liebman, Matthew Shipp, Marc Copland, Ellery Eskelin, Vienna Art Orchestra, Theo Jörgensmann, Franz Koglmann, Horace Tapscott, Paul Smoker and Oliver Lake.

Funding from UBS ceased in 2000 but the label has since received sponsorship from VITRA / ROLF FEHLBAUM for an ongoing series of projects and from the DANZAS GROUP.
