Harvest Moon DS: Grand Bazaar (牧場物語 ようこそ!風のバザールへ Bokujō Monogatari: Yōkoso! Kaze no Bazaar e, lit. "Ranch Story: Welcome! to Wind's Bazaar") is a video game released on December 18, 2008 by Marvelous Interactive in Japan, and released on August 24, 2010 by Natsume in North America. It was also released in Europe on September 30, 2011 by Rising Star Games.[2] The game is the nineteenth game in the Harvest Moon series and the fifth game in the series for the Nintendo DS.
Storyline
Zephyr Town's bazaar was once the grandest in the world, drawing customers and peddlers from all four corners of the Earth. These days, though, the bazaar has more tumbleweeds than customers. You have recently moved to this town and have taken over a run down farm on the outskirts of town. Raise animals, harvest crops, craft rare delicacies, and then sell your wares at your very own shop! [3]
Gameplay
The Bazaar
New to this game is the Bazaar. The Bazaar occurs every Saturday, 10:00AM to 7:00PM. Here, the player can sell any of their items to people from the city. Mayor Felix will present the bazaar's profit goal and the rankings for the most profitable shop the day after the bazaar. If the player ranks in the top 3, they earn a prize.[4]
As you make more money at the bazaar, you will increase its size, the number of shops that appear, and its popularity. Felix will announce that the bazaar will have more shops.[5]
Windmills
There are three windmills on the island. One next to the player's farm, one next to the hotel, and one in the Waterfall area.
When the game first starts, all windmills are broken and nonfunctional. The windmills are repaired on certain dates.
Each windmill has a different function.
The windmill next to the player's farm is used for fermenting.
The windmill next to the hotel is used for manufacturing items and tool upgrades.
The windmill in the Waterfall area is used for grinding crops.
Windmill's use wind factor to determine how fast the process will take. The faster the wind, the faster the process will finish. Players can blow into the DS microphone to help speed up the process as well.
[6]
Seasons
There are four seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter.
Each season has different crops that can the player can plant. Crops a different season cannot continue to grow in another season. e.g. Spring crops will die once Summer starts.
Player cannot grow any crops during Winter due to that the crops cannot survive in Winter.
Crops
Growing crops is the primary source of income in the game.
The player is given a hoe and a watering can as tools for growing crops at the beginning.
Crops have star ranks as attributes. The higher the star rank of the crop, the more money it can be sold for.
Fertilizer may be bought or made by the player. Fertilizer can be placed on trees or crops to increase the star rank.
