Harpon Bay

Harpon Bay is a bay 1 nautical mile (2 km) wide, lying just east of Mercer Bay in the south part of Cumberland West Bay, South Georgia. It was first mapped by the Swedish Antarctic Expedition, 1901–04, under Otto Nordenskiöld. It was surveyed by the South Georgia Survey in the period 1951–57, and was named by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee for the cargo vessel Harpon, built in 1897, which had been used by the Compañía Argentina de Pesca, Grytviken, since 1922.[1][2]
