Hanzala Malik is a Scottish Labour Party member of the Scottish Parliament for Glasgow, elected in 2011.[1]
He was also a Glasgow City Councillor, for the Hillhead ward.[2]
Hanzala Malik was born in Glasgow and was a Glasgow City Councillor from 1995 to 2012. Malik was elected as a Labour MSP for City of Glasgow Constituency in May 2011. Malik is of mixed descent; his father was born in Pakistan and his mother was born in Scotland. He has been married for over thirty years and has two children and two grandchildren.
Malik holds a BSc in Computing with Business Administration from the University of Paisley. He has worked in both the private and public sector including serving as a special police constable and member of the Territorial Army. As a Glasgow Councillor, Mr Malik was a member on the council's key committees, including Education, Development and Regeneration, Finance, Housing, Licensing, Policy and Resources.
Mr Malik is due to step down from his position as Glasgow City Councillor in May 2012 after seventeen years of service.
