Hans Zeiger

Hans Andreas Zeiger (born February 20, 1985) is an American politician. He is currently the Representative for the 25th Legislative District of Washington. Zeiger is also an author. He is a Republican.^[1]

Early years

A native of Puyallup, Washington, Zeiger attended Puyallup High School, graduating in 2003. There he was involved in student government, cross country, and debate. Further, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout from Troop 174 in Puyallup. He also attended Evergreen Boys State (EBS); now he is a key note speaker for EBS.

Education

After graduating from Puyallup High School in 2003, Zeiger attended Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan. He graduated with a bachelor's of arts in American Studies in 2007. Later that year, Zeiger entered the Masters of Public Policy program at the Pepperdine University School of Public Policy. He graduated on April 17, 2009.

Career

Zeiger is a senior fellow at the American Civil Rights Union. Zeiger has written two books, published by B&H Publishing Group; Get Off My Honor: The Assault on the Boy Scouts of America in 2005, and Reagan's Children: Taking Back the City on the Hill in 2006. ^[2]

In 2010, Hans was elected State Representative for the 25th Legislative District.

In 2013, he was commissioned as an officer in the Washington State Air National Guard.

Recent

Zeiger was on the Boy Scouts episode of Penn and Teller: Bullshit! to defend how he sees the boy scouts.

For several years, Zeiger has worked as an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 174. Also, in 2002 Hans served on the Puyallup Veteran’s Memorial Dedication Committee, and in 2007 he began a project to document the stories of Puyallup’s World War II veterans.

Today his civic and volunteer activities include the boards of the One Another Foundation, the South Hill Historical Society, the William Ruckelshaus Center, Mainstream Republicans of Washington, and the Pierce County Developmental Disabilities Advisory Board.

Zeiger is the representative for the 25th Legislative District of Washington.^[1] He serves on the Transportation, Higher Education, and Capital Budget Committees, and he was appointed to the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Committee.

Controversial statements

Zeiger wrote several controversial articles, including commentary on the Girl Scouts and public schools. He wrote on the website Intellectual Conservative, "The Girl Scouts allow homosexuals and atheists to join their ranks, and they have become a pro-abortion, feminist training corps."^[3] On public schools, Zeigler wrote "I spent most of my K-12 education at my local government indoctrination center. I was also home schooled during the seventh and eighth grades. The corridors and classrooms of the modern public school are so polluted with the filth of moral relativism that the typical public high school graduate moves into the world devoid of character, conscience, or courage. And while he may have self-esteem, tolerance, and a grasp of diversity, the public school graduate is incompetent in academic comparison to the rest of the free world. ^[4]

He has since removed these and many other articles, opinion pieces and postings from the Internet that he claims no longer represent his current views.^[5]
