Hannam-dong is a dong, neighbourhood of Yongsan-gu in Seoul, South Korea.
Initially not belonging to Yongsan ward, it was just a little hamlet called Han-River-Village (한강리; 漢江里) belonging to Hanji (한지면; 漢芝面) within Goyang County (고양군 高陽郡) and lying close near Han river, during Korea under Japanese rule's period. Right across the river from Gangnam Station (강남역) and its close proximity to locations in north Seoul places it literally in the heart of Seoul itself. Celebrities and executives live in three well known residential areas: UN VIllage, The Hill, and Richensia Apts. The surrounding area while well known has always been free of the crowding known in other parts of Seoul. Starting in the 2010s, the area has grown to be a trendy hotspot in the day and night with boutique cafe's, restaurants and bars proliferating the area. [2][3]
The area has a large concentration of foreign residents, who are mainly business executives and diplomats.[4]
