HandyGames is an independent developer and publisher of mobile games headquartered in Giebelstadt, Germany.[1] The company develops downloadable and pre-installed games and applications for mobile phones.[6]

By 2014 HandyGames had 150,000 app downloads per month and more than 100 million downloads in total.[7]

Company

The company was founded in 2000 by brothers Christopher and Markus Kassulke along with Udo Bausewein. In 2006, HandyGames released its first free, ad-funded game and began the gradual transition to a largely ad-funded business model. Since 2010, all new HandyGames titles are either free or freemium.[8]

HandyGames went "Beyond Mobile" in early 2012 and has since released games for the PC and the Ouya console. HandyGames is one of the six top-tier backers of the Android-powered OUYA Video Game Console project on Kickstarter and also backed the animation tool Spine.[9][10]

In January 2014 the company were main sponsors for the "HandyGames Charity Day 2014" in Würzburg, which aimed to raise 50,000 euros for cancer research.[11]

HandyGamesTM was one of the first companies to launch games for wearable technology in 2014.[12] The games are working on Android Wear devices, including the Moto 360 by Motorola, the Sony SmartWatch and the LG G Watch.[13]
