Hamza Robertson (born Tom Robertson; January 1982) is an English singer who is signed to and managed by Andante Records.

Early life

Born Tom Robertson in Chadderton, Greater Manchester, England,[1] he was brought up in a Christian family environment.[2] From an early age, he involved himself in music and the performing arts. He was a part of the local theatre workshop, where he wrote music and acted in plays. He took part in bands beyond college, playing instruments and writing music.[3]

He played the keyboard and performed vocals in several bands, later becoming lead singer, keyboard player and guitarist in a band he formed with his friends. He studied Performing Arts and Popular Music for three years[4] until the age of 20.[5]

Career

In 2003, at the age of 21, Robertson converted to Islam[6] and adopted the name Hamza.[5] However, his musical influences remained very similar to what they were before he became a Muslim.[7]

In November 2006, he performed at the Global Peace and Unity Event in ExCeL Exhibition Centre in London organised by Islam Channel.[8] In April 2007, he performed at the Evening of Inspiration event[1][9] at the Royal Albert Hall organised by Islamic Relief.[10]

In July 2007,[11][12] Robertson released his first album Something About Life,[13] under Awakening Records.[14]

Robertson also has a daytime job with a telephone company.[15]

Personal life

Robertson is based in his hometown of Chadderton with his wife and two sons.[6]
