Hamish MacKenzie is a retired Scottish professional football full back who appeared in the Football League for Brentford.[1]

Career

Early years

MacKenzie began his career as an apprentice at Division Two side Liverpool, making his reserve team debut during the 1961/62 season.[2] He signed a professional contract in March 1962, but remained in the reserves and failed to make a first team appearance before departing Anfield in 1963.[1] MacKenzie made 20 reserve team outings for Liverpool.[2][3] MacKenzie returned to his native Scotland to join Scottish Division One side Dunfermline Athletic, but failed to make an appearance during the 1963/64 season and departed the club at the end of the campaign.[1]

Brentford

MacKenzie returned to England to sign for Division Three side Brentford in 1964, managed by Scot Malky McDonald.[1] MacKenzie was mostly confined to the Bees' reserve team during his first two seasons, making just three first team appearances.[4] MacKenzie made a breakthrough of sorts during the 1966/67 season, making 20 appearances, but financial cutbacks at the stricken club forced his release in the summer of 1967.[1] He made just 23 first team appearances, but found success with the reserve team,[4] winning the London Challenge Cup in 1965 and 1967.[5]

Personal life

MacKenzie's uncle, Duncan McKenzie, was also a professional footballer and played for Brentford and Middlesbrough.[1]
