Hail Weston is a Cambridgeshire village a few miles north west of St Neots. The B645 road passes by the southern edge of the village, linking it with Eaton Socon and the A1 trunk road to the east and Kimbolton to the west. Other nearby settlements include the villages of Little Paxton, Great Staughton, Little Staughton, Perry, and Southoe. Hail Weston is within the District of Huntingdonshire. The B645 was downgraded from the A45 when the new A14 A1-M1 link road was opened to traffic in the mid-1990s.

The River Kym or Hail passes just to the north of the village and is forded by the minor road from Hail Weston to the A1 trunk road and Little Paxton.

In the 19th century, the village had three public houses: the Royal Oak Pub, the Crown, and another whose name is not currently recorded.[1] The Crown closed in 2001, leaving the Royal Oak the last remaining of the three.

Situated in the centre of the village, the Royal Oak Pub is a grade II listed, thatched-roof pub, dating to at least the 17th century.[2] In 2011 it was sold by the Charles Wells Pub Company.[3] On January 1, 2012 it was closed, and in March 2012 it was auctioned.

In December 2011 a Hail Weston community group formed, the Save the Royal Oak Action Group, (later the Hail Weston Community Pub Society)[4] to attempt to buy the Royal Oak and run it as a co-operative community pub. In January 2013 it was registered as an Asset of Community Value under the Localism Act 2011,[5] and in November 2013 the Hail Weston Community Pub Society made a formal offer for the Royal Oak.[6]

Hail Weston also contains a park, Village Hall, phonebox and the church of St Nicolas rendering its status as a village.
