"HR 8938 Cephei" is a song by Canadian house music producer Joel Zimmerman, better known as deadmau5.

Background

In late 2010 on Ustream, Zimmerman played a series of notes resembling those used in "HR 8938 Cephei". The finished song was uploaded by Zimmerman through his SoundCloud account on March 16, 2011, alongside tracks "Bleed" and "Get in the Cart, Pig".

The name "Get in the Cart, Pig" was inspired by a 2010 YouTube video of Zimmerman playing Minecraft titled "pig cart". Here, he can be seen trying to get a pig inside of a minecart and get it to ride downhill on a set of tracks. He exclaims "Get in the cart! Fuckin' pig!"^[1]

The song is named after a star in the Cepheus constellation, "HR 8938". The day after release, Zimmerman apologized to astronomers who couldn't find information about the star because he had named his song after it, as online search results would point to the latter.^[2]

The song has been used extensively in various sampled forms all throughout the first season of the Disney TV show Tron: Uprising, most often in the nightclub scenes.

Release

A second revision of "Bleed" was featured on the 2012 YouTube video "Bleed / Dundas Square", where the song is used as background music for the video, which consists of slow-motion video clips taken in Dundas Square, as the name suggests.^[3] "Get in the Cart, Pig" would later be expanded on and released on the 2012 album "Album Title Goes Here" and renamed "Fn Pig" (name also inspired by aforementioned YouTube video). "Bleed" appears on the 2014 album "while(1<2)", and was written in memory of a fan that had died in a car crash.^[4]
