Gypsy Lane railway station serves the Middlesbrough suburbs of Nunthorpe and Marton; the station lies within the borough of Redcar and Cleveland in the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire, England. It is located on the Esk Valley Line and is operated by Northern Rail who provide all of the station's passenger services.

Station facilities here have recently been improved as part of the successful Tees Valley Metro project. The package for this station included new fully lit waiting shelters, renewed station signage and the installation of CCTV. The long-line Public Address system (PA) has been renewed and upgraded with pre-recorded train announcements.

The Gypsy Lane crossing of the railway line is no longer a through road: the crossing is closed to through traffic.

Services

The December 2007 timetable brought about significant changes, and the service is now better than it has been since the mid-1980s when there was an hourly Nunthorpe - Middlesbrough service including seven Whitby trains.

Monday to Saturdays, there is now an hourly service (17 per day) in each direction. Four of these comprise the through service to/from Whitby, whilst the remainder run between Newcastle Central and Nunthorpe (except for two each way that operate between Nunthorpe and Darlington instead).[1] The improved service was introduced concurrently with the opening of the new James Cook railway station on 18 May 2014.

Sundays:

The Esk Valley Middlesbrough - Whitby service runs for approximately 32 weeks from the end of March to early November. Four trains each way operate.[2]
