Gus Williams (musician)

Kasper Gus Ntjalka Williams OAM, known as Gus Williams (20 June 1937 – 13 September 2010)[1][2] was a country singer from Hermannsburg in Central Australia. He was an Arrernte man, who was born in Alice Springs.[3] He was the father of country star Warren H Williams.

Honours

In 1983 Williams was given a Medal of the Order of Australia for services to country music and Aboriginal people.[4] In 2000 he was an inductee into the Country Music Hands Of Fame in Tamworth. He was given a Deadly in 2001 for Outstanding Contribution to Aboriginal Music. Gus Williams was in 2004 presented with a Country Music Centenary Medal from CMAA for service to Australian society through Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music. In 2005 Williams was inducted into the hall of fame at Music NT's Indigenous Music Awards.
