Gurongi

The Gurongi Tribe (グロンギ族 Gurongi Zoku) are a fictional race creatures who act as the antagonists in the 2000 Kamen Rider Series Kamen Rider Kuuga.

Fictional history

The Gurongi is a mysterious ancient civilization consists of beings that can transform into monsters to kill people for their ruthless game (ゲーム gēmu), which is translated into the Gurongi Language (グロンギ語 Gurongi-Go) as the "Gegeru" (ゲゲル). Attacking their rival civilization the Linto (リント Rinto), the original Kuuga defeats the leader of the Gurongi and seals all 200 of the Gurongi away. Also protecting the Linto were the Lords, who would later appear as the antagonists in Kamen Rider Agito. However, by present day, the newly resurrected Daguva revives his tribe from their rest and resume the Gegeru on the human race, the descendants of the Linto, to bring out the "Ultimate Darkness" (究極の闇 Kyūkyoku no Yami), where humanity will be as violent as the Gurongi. They are referred by the police as Unidentified Life Forms (also known as "Unidentified Creatures") (未確認生命体 Mikakunin Seimeitai). Each of them possesses a strange artifact in all of their bodies, no different from Kuuga. Those seen to assume human form are labeled as "B" (B群 Bīgun), each the human-like Gurongi possessing a tattoo that resemble their true animalistic forms. Unidentified Life Form #B1 only remains in human form for the rest of the series. Each Gurongi has a stylized buckle with the Geburon (ゲブロン) stone like Kuuga's Amadam stone on the Gedoruudo (ゲドルード Gedorūdo) belt in their true form which if destroyed causes the Gurongi's destruction, as seen when one is hit with one of Kuuga's finishers, causing cracks to spread out from the site of the impact until it reaches their belt buckle, upon which light pours out of it and the Gurongi explodes. The naming pattern of the Gurongi is "Group-Species-Creature type". Only 48 out of the 200 Gurongi were named, with 25 members appeared in the course of Kuuga 's broadcast, while the remaining 23 were mentionerd in various Kuuga-related media.

The first part of their names indicates their rank. The second part is the personal name. The third part indicates what animals they resemble. "Ba" Gurongi are insects and arachnids, "Da" Gurongi are mammals, "De" Gurongi are plants, "Gi" Gurongi are fish and aquatic animals, "Gu" Gurongi are birds and other winged animals, and "Re" Gurongi are reptiles and amphibians.

Once at Nagano, Daguva resumes the carnage before starting a systematic genocide of all humans in Japan as he tells Yusuke to meet him at Mount Kurō (九郎ヶ岳 Kurō-ga-take) for a final confrontation. But as he hoped, Daguva assumes his Gurongi form as he and Kuuga battle each other.
