Gudur railway station, located in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, serves Gudur in Sri Potti Sri Ramulu Nellore district. It is a major junction station with branch lines to Arakkonam and Vellore Katpadi via Tirupati.
History
The Vijayawada-Chennai link was established in 1899.[1]
The Chirala-Elavur section was electrified in 1980-81.[2]
Station category
Gudur is one of the fourteen ‘A’ category stations and one of the five adarsh stations in the Vijayawada Division of South Central Railway.There is a coach maintenance depot at Gudur.[3]
Platforms
The station has 3 platforms and the railway government has sanctioned the funds to increase the platforms to 7 to avoid waiting the trains in outer. Each platform can handle a train with more than 24 coaches.
Busy station
Gudur Junction is one of the top hundred booking stations of Indian Railway.[4]
Gudur Junction have lifts in all the platforms.[5] Daily 160 trains, including 90 express trains and 10 passenger trains originate and pass through this station.[6]
Amenities
Gudur Junction has computerised reservation facilities (with all-India linkage), waiting room, retiring room, light refreshment facilities and book stall.
