Guararapes

Coordinates: 21°15′39″S 50°38′34″W / 21.26083°S 50.64278°W / -21.26083; -50.64278 Guararapes is a municipality near Araçatuba in the state of São Paulo in Brazil. The population in 2004 was 29,948 and the area is 959.12 km². The elevation is 415 m. This place name comes from the Tupi language, meaning "Drums".

Guararapes is also the name of a location in Pernambuco which was of strategic importance in the Dutch–Portuguese War of the 17th Century, being the site of the First Battle of Guararapes (1648) and the Second Battle of Guararapes (1649) through which Dutch occupation in Brazil was terminated.
