The Grundy County Courthouse, located in Grundy Center, Iowa, United States, was built in 1891. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981 as a part of the County Courthouses in Iowa Thematic Resource.[1] The courthouse is the second building the county has used for court functions and county administration.
History
The first courthouse in Grundy County was built in 1857, the year after the county was organized. It was known as the “Old Cheese Box” and was the only octagon shaped courthouse in Iowa.[2] It served as the county courthouse for forty years and was replaced by the current courthouse in 1891. The Romanesque Revival structure was designed by Kramer & Zoll.[1] The building was built for $45,532.48.[2]
