GreyHounds is an elite special force of Telangana and AP states which undertakes high risk ops deep inside strongholds of jungles against red terrorists. This "Unit" is responsible for wiping out naxal terrorisim out of the states of Telangana and AP. The Maoists violence in the state has claimed more than 20,000 lives of innocent civilians, security forces for the past 30 years. The peace and harmony that one is witnessing is largely due to insane bravery and awesome self-sacrifice of this unit. GreyHounds is an enigmatic organization know for its simplicity, humbleness and professional excellence. For many it is a mystery. Truly, GreyHounds is a crown jewel among the Indian special forces.[1][2][3]

History

GreyHounds was raised in the year 1989 by the lengendary late Shri Vyas IPS. Ironically the founder of the most dreaded anti-extremist outfit was gunned down by Maoists in Hyderabad in the year 1989.

The Force

Perhaps there is no other organization in the whole of the nation with such rich and varied experience in jungle warfare. All its missions are shrouded in absolute secrecy and hence the name "Shadow Warriors". Only their enemies know that they were "there". Though not much is known about their strategy and tactics it is widely believed that they fight a "guerilla like a guerilla." GreyHounds is credited to some daring and unconventional ops and is responsible for liquidation of dreaded top cadre Maoists. Unlike many special forces which prefer to claim reponsibilty for their ops , the missions of GreyHounds are understated . Though some Human rights activists with Moaists leanings accuse GreyHounds of Human rights violations , their missions endear people.

Only the best policemen of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh make it to the GreyHound squad, which is one of the highest paid in the country - even better than the elite National Security Guard.

The state has been a long-time guerrilla hotbed but since 2005, the elite force prowling the backcountry and supported by paid informants at the village level have managed to arrest or kill several top rebels.[4]

The force, which numbers around 2,000 in the state, moves around in small bands of 15-25 commandos. They are specially trained for deep forest pursuit and combat.

Over the past two years, the rebel ranks have fallen from around 1,000 hardcore members to some 400 today. [5]

Training

GreyHounds commandos are the toughest in terms of physical endurance and mental resilience . They pass through the most ardous training and only few make it . GreyHounds matches in tactics with elite forces such as British SAS and SEALS . These “quite professionals “ rely on speed , surprise, stealth and skill. The officers selected to this organization are combat hardened and are the best operators in jungle craft.. In terms of incentives they are the best paid.

Functions

Many special forces such as COBRA( CRPF), SOG ( ODISHA), C60 ( MAHARASTRA), STF ( CHATIISGARH), JAGUARS( Jharkhand ), BSF, SSB, RPF and states police of Bihar,UP,Meghalaya Assam ,Karnataka, T Nadu, Kerala ..etc are modeled after GreyHounds and are trained by them.
