Gregor Ramsay (born 30 June 1996) is a Scottish racing driver, born in Glasgow. In 2014 he is competing in the 2014 Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 season [1] with Lotus F1 Junior Team.

Career

Karting

He started karting in the Cadet class at the relatively late age of 10 during the 2007 season at Larkhall, his local track. He then moved into national competition, joining the ZIP Young Guns team of karting legend Martin Hines and being coached by Terry Fullerton.

Ramsay then moved onto the international karting scene with the official Tony Kart Junior Team based out of Italy and competing in the WSK ( world series Karting events) throughout Europe". While competing in Italy he started working with the Ferrari Driver Academy. The FDA was instrumental in his acquiring an International race licence, at the age of just 15.

After two race weekends in 2012 Formula Abarth[2] at the end of 2011, Ramsay contested the full Formula Abarth European Series in 2012. He won one race at Vallelunga,[3] took another podium at Imola and finished eighth in the championship with Swiss team Jenzer Motorsport.

Formula Renault

For 2013 he has switched to Formula Renault[4] with the Euronova team of Vincenzo Sospiri,[5] who is a former star of international motor racing.

World Series by Renault granted Gregor two wildcard entries for the Renault 2.0 Eurocup, with MP Manor Motorsport running alongside championship leader and fellow Brit, Oliver Rowland. The first being on 15/16 September 2013 at the Hungarian F1 circuit, and on the 29/30 September 2013 at Paul Ricard, France.

2013 was a learning curve year for Gregor in Renault 2.0 and some performances lead to an official top F1 Team junior programme drive in 2014.

Lotus F1 Junior Team

Scottish teenager Gregor Ramsay was presented the opportunity of a lifetime by being signed to the Lotus F1 Junior Team[6]

The 17-year-old, who in 2013 completed his rookie season in the Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS series, joins the stable of drivers being groomed by the race-winning Lotus F1 Team on his quest to reach the pinnacle of motorsport.

This means that East Kilbride racer Ramsay will step up to contest the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup in 2014. The series visits seven Formula 1-level tracks in six countries: Motorland Aragon (Spain), Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), Moscow Raceway (Russia), Nurburgring (Germany), Hungaroring (Hungary), Paul Ricard (France) and Jerez (Spain). Ramsay will compete with the Belgian-based KTR team run by former racing ace Kurt Mollekens.

Ramsay rapidly rose through the ranks of karting, thanks to the support of renowned karting talent-spotters, Terry Fullerton and the late Martin Hines. With support from Ferrari Driver Academy manager Luca Baldisserri, he moved into the Formula Abarth European Series, becoming a race winner at Vallelunga in his rookie season of 2012, taking a further podium finish at Imola and finishing a creditable eighth in the championship at the age of 16.

His graduation to Formula Renault ALPS included some very strong showings with the Euronova Racing team run by highly respected ex-international race star Vincenzo Sospiri, as well as eye-catching form as a wild-card entrant in selected races in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup on the Grand Prix circuits at Spa and Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya.

Ramsay’s single-seater racing career has been assisted by Colin and Chris Weir, who will continue their involvement with their fellow Scot.
