The Greenwich Line is a short railway line in South London that follows part of the route of the London and Greenwich Railway, which was the first railway line in London.
The line diverges from the South Eastern Main Line at North Kent East junction[1] and runs as far as Charlton junction[2] where it connects with the North Kent Line.
Stations
- Deptford
- Greenwich
- Maze Hill
- Westcombe Park
History
The line was electrified with the other SECR local routes to Dartford on 6 June 1926 by Southern Railway.
On the 12 January 2015, services that stop on the Greenwich Line are generally unable to serve London Charing Cross. This is due to the Thameslink Programme that will form a barrier between Greenwich Line and the London Charing Cross Lines at London Bridge.[3] London Cannon Street is planned to be open at all times from December 2014 for services from this line and New Cross.[4] A single track fly-under is being built on the viaduct between Deptford and London Bridge but it's unlikely to be used for frequent services to Charing Cross.
Service patterns
Passenger services on the line are operated by Southeastern using Class 376, 465 & 466 trains.
The current service pattern (as of January 2015) is as follows:
Off-peak & Saturday:
- 2tph between London Cannon Street & Dartford
- 2tph between London Cannon Street & Slade Green, continuing to London Cannon Street via Bexleyheath Line
- 2tph between London Cannon Street & Slade Green, continuing to London Cannon Street via Dartford Loop Line
Sunday:
