Greene King IPA
Greene King IPA is a bitter produced by the English brewer Greene King. "IPA" stands for India Pale Ale, although the beer bears little resemblance to this style.
History
In 2002 it overtook Tetley Bitter to become the highest selling cask beer in the world. It retained this position until 2013, when it was overtaken in sales by Sharps Doom Bar bitter.
In 2009 Greene King began to roll out a new form of dispense for GK IPA which allows customers to choose either a "Northern" or a "Southern" head on their beer.[1]
In 2012, two extensions of the GK IPA brand were launched: Gold and Reserve.[2]
Production
GK IPA is made using Challenger and First Gold hops, and pale and crystal malt.[3] It is brewed to an ABV of 3.6%.
It is exported to over thirty countries worldwide.[4] It is available in casks, bottles, kegs and cans.
An Export version of the beer is available at 5% ABV.
A nitrokeg version of the beer is called GK IPA Smooth.
In 2012, cask Greene King IPA sold 127,000 barrels.
