METRO is a public bus system in Southern Maine, serving the Portland area. Formed in 1966, METRO provides public transit throughout the Greater Portland Region.

In 2006, Metro Bus purchased 13 natural gas buses, adding seven additional CNG buses in 2011. METRO's current fleet includes 30 buses (12 are clean diesel).

Greater Portland Transit District is Maine's largest public transportation carrier. In 2013, it transported more than 1.4 million passengers.
