Greater Glasgow Police Scotland Pipe Band, formerly the Strathclyde Police Pipe Band is a grade one pipe band from Glasgow, Scotland.
History
The band was formed in 1883 as the Burgh of Govan Police Pipe Band and was one of the first pipe bands to be formed outside the ranks of the British military. The band's name changed in 1912 to the City of Glasgow Police Pipe Band, evolving into Strathclyde Police Pipe Band in 1975 as a result of local government re-organisation, then Greater Glasgow Police Scotland Pipe Band following the merger of Scotland's regional and local police forces into Police Scotland in 2013.[1]
Ian McLellan BEM was the Pipe Major of the Band while they won all of their World's Championships within the last thirty years.[2]
The band’s current Pipe Major Duncan Nicholson, was appointed in 2010.[3]
