Gramoz Ruçi

Gramoz Ruçi is an Albanian politician, serving as the head of the parliamentarian group of the opposition.

Early life

Gramoz Ruçi was born in 1952 in Salari, a village in Tepelenë District, in southern Albania. He graduated in Chemistry, and started to work as a teacher in Progonat. There, he met his future wife, who was from the Goxharaj family. They married in 1976. From 1985, Ruçi started his political career.

Political career

He was named Labour Party First Secretary of Tepelena district in 1988, and in 1990 he was named Minister of Interior; however, he kept that position only for 2 months and a half.

From 1992 to 1996 he was Secretary General of SPA. From 1997 he is member of the parliament for SPA. In 2000, he was chosen as leader of the parliamentary group, until 2005. Since 2009, he is head of the parliamentary group.

Personal life

Ruçi's daughter, Ridvana Ruci, works as a senior official at the Albanian ombudsman. She completed her studies in law at the Public University of Athens. His son, Ledian Ruçi, born in 1985, has completed his Bachelor degree for International Studies in Athens. Ruçi speaks Albanian, Greek and Italian. Mr. Ruci is grandfather of two nieces: Mia and Hera, on his daughter's side.^[1]
