Lincoln City

Hutchison began his career at Lincoln City FC in 2009, having progressed through the club's youth ranks.

Birmingham City

In November 2009 he was spotted playing for Scotland under-17 by Birmingham City FC and was signed by them shortly after in January 2010, going on to play for their youth-team and reserve team. At the end of the 2010/11 season Hutchison signed a 2-year professional contract with the club and was also awarded with the Scholar of the Year award for Birmingham at the Premier League Awards.

Worcester finished the season in 15th place with 18 clean sheets. After the departure of captain Tom Thorely in January 2014, Hutchison was named captain until the end of the 2013/14 season.
