Grace Sewell (known simply as Grace) is an Australian singer-songwriter. She is best known for "You Don't Own Me", a remake of the 1963 Lesley Gore song, produced by Quincy Jones and featuring G-Eazy.[2] The song was a Spotify top 10 most viral track and a single from her debut album from RCA Records.[3] Outside of her solo career, she has performed with her brother Conrad Sewell, front man for the group Sons of Midnight.[4]
Early life
Grace is from Brisbane, Australia and grew up listening to musical artists such as Smokey Robinson, Janis Joplin, Shirley Bassey, and Amy Winehouse.[2] She comes from a family of musicians with her grandparents performing as singers with the Gibb Brothers.[2]
Career
Grace is the sister of Conrad Sewell with whom she performed with early in her career, including recording the duet "The Code".[5] She performed for Dropout Live UK, singing a cover of "Do It like a Dude" by Jessie J.[6] Grace signed with RCA Records in 2015 and began recording in Atlanta with Puff Daddy and Quincy Jones.[4]
Grace released the single "You Don't Own Me" in early 2015, her first single with RCA Records. The song is a remake of the 1963 Leslie Gore classic, originally produced by Quincy Jones.[7] Grace recorded the song with G-Eazy, with Quincy Jones returning to co-produce the track.[8] The song became a top 10 viral track on Spotify in April 2015,[9] and is part of her debut album scheduled for release in spring 2015.[7] She co-wrote a track for the album with Fraser T Smith which features additional writing and production contributions from Parker Ighile, Diane Warren, and Quincy Jones.[10]
