The Governor of Balochistan is the head of the provincial government in Balochistan, Pakistan. The post was established by President Yahya Khan on 1 July 1970, unlike the other provinces where the governorship had been maintained since the country's founding in 1947. The governor is designated by the Prime Minister, and is normally regarded as a ceremonial, non-partisan office. However, the powers of the governor have been vastly increased during periods of governor's rule, where the governor is provided the province's apex powers usually following the dissolution of the Provincial Assembly or the declaration of martial law. Officeholders charged with governor's rule were Akbar Bugti (1973-1974), Ahmad Yar Khan (1974-1977), Rahimuddin Khan (1977-1984), Amir-ul-Mulk Mengal (1999-2003), Zulfikar Ali Magsi (2008-2013) and the incumbent, Muhammad Khan Achakzai (2013 to present).[1]
