Government Engineering College-Rewa is an engineering college established by the state government at Rewa in Madhya Pradesh (MP), India.[1]
Rewa Engineering College, Rewa established in 1964 has blossomed into a pioneer technical education center in Vindhya region of Madhya Pradesh. The institute is located in serene atmosphere of 250 Acres land of environment friendly campus.[2] The institute offers four bachelor degree programmes in civil (60), mechanical (60), electrical (40) and electronics and telecommunication (60) engineering with total 220 intake. The institute also offers the part-time degree programme in second shift for diploma holder field engineers in civil (20), mechanical (20) and electrical engineering branch (20) with total intake of 60.[3]
History
Declared as an autonomous society by the Government in 1998 with a board of governors to look after its affairs with the Minister (Department of Technical Education) as its chairman.The institute was affiliated to Awadhesh Pratap Singh University, Rewa, till 2000 afterwards got affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Institute at first was set up in the present Model Science college building with Prof. S.R. Beedkar as founder Principal, later it was shifted to Government B.Ed College building. In 1972 it was shifted to its present campus spread in about 250 acres (1.0 km2). The first batch was started with 120 students in the branches of Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. In 1984 Electronics engineering branch was started with a 20 student intake. In 1980 a B.E. (transfer course) was introduced in civil, mechanical and electrical with 20-intake capacity in each branch to facilitate the diploma holder students graduate. For providing higher education opportunities to serving diploma holder engineers a part-time B.E. Degree course was introduced in 1988 with 20 students in each intake capacity in civil, mechanical and electrical branches.

The institute campus has a central institution building, computer centre, workshops, canteen, athletic and sports grounds, hospital, staff quarters and general amenities like post office, bank and guesthouse spread over in an area of 250 acres. The institute has 4 hostels (2 boys' and 2 girls' hostels) with a capacity of 306 with food and lodging facilities, with Internet connectivity.
Rewa Engineering College has a campus area of 250 acres (1.0 km2) divided between two of its division each on the either side of University road for the Academic building and Professor's colony almost equally. Academic division hosts main academic building consisting of civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and electronics engineering departments along with offices of principal, heads of departments and subordinates. Classes for poly technique courses have started, but classes are held in the morning shift, as there is no separate building for it.
Center of Excellence for Microsoft Technologies
Rewa Engineering College, Rewa has established a center of excellence for Microsoft Technologies with collaboration from Microsoft Corporation as per the declaration of honorable CM of Madhya Pradesh. In this context, the software training programmes were started from July 2012.This initiative was financially supported by Information Technology Department of Madhya Pradesh in order to enhance the employability of graduating students by imparting cutting edge training on latest Microsoft Technologies like .NET, Windows Server Administration, Windows and Web based Application development, etc.The Rewa Engineering College has acquired an active subscription of Microsoft IT Academy and all the necessary software from Microsoft. The registration for the software training programs can be done by filling the registration form available at the center. The registration form can also be downloaded from college website www.recrewa.ac.in.
In addition to this, the center also runs few computer training programmes under Skill development Initiative Scheme of Government of India.More than 250 students have been trained so far in various software training programmes in this center.
Central Library
Across 1000 students are being facilitated by college library. It consists across 7500 books. Under the library campus there is one counter for reserved students and another one for unreserved students, where students are allowed to do book transactions since from 10:30 A.M. to 5 P.M.
Library has been completely automated. Lecture CDs of IIT professors are available here, which is being displayed to students by the help of projector where students completely enjoy this facility.Library also provides book facility to official employees of college. Library reading room has the sitting capacity of 50 students.College E-Library has been established at November 2014, where 131 e-books can be read on computer. A separate room has been organized for E-Library. It consists of 10 computers where students can read e-books as per their requirement. E-book facility is also available in entire college campus.E-books can be read anywhere inside the library campus through any department. Library is also having 275 online e-book reading facility. Despite of having lack of resources/staff, college library is well maintained.
Conference Hall
GEC Rewa provide conference hall facilities within their premises. Spacious and well-equipped, these spaces are ideal for hosting workshops, seminars and meetings. These need to be booked in advance.It has a overall Capacity of 50 people. Boys and Girls Hostel
Rewa Engineering college Rewa was established in 1964. Boys and Girls Hostels were also constructed with the start of this College. At present, we have two Boys Hostels, one old Boys Hostel and one New Boys Hostel. Likewise, we have two Girls Hostels, one old Girls Hostel and one New Girls Hostel. Hostels capacity and other details are shown in the following table.

Athletic Grounds
There is a great tradition for sports at GEC Rewa. Students, faculty and staff all participate in the many sports played at GEC Rewa enthusiastically. There are many sporting events held at GEC Rewa each year.

The institute campus has smart classrooms, workshops, canteen, hospital, staff quarters and general amenities like post office, bank and guesthouse spread over in an area of 250 acres.The entire campus is wifi enabled.To groom students in terms of personality development, the institute also have language lab.

Among above, the Civil Engineering department is the leading department of the institute with dedicated faculty who possess the Ph. D degree from premier institute like IIT Delhi and IIT Roorkee. Our effort is to provide best facilities to our students so that they may compete with the modern Civil Engineering World, as the Smart City concept is round the corner.The Department is quite old and hence equipped with all core equipments in all laboratories. In TEQIP World Bank scheme the modern digital equipment like 100 Ton capacity UTM Machine, Digital Triaxail shear test apparatus, Field CBR apparatus, Plate load test apparatus and many more modern equipments were purchased.[5]

Department of Electrical Engineering GEC Rewa was established in 1964. In the present Model science College building with professor M.B.Jain as founder Head of department in Electrical Engineering . Subsequently it was shifted to PGBT building . Thereafter finally in 1972 it was shifted to present campus as spreading above 250 acres (total collage area).In our department in addition to the HOD room, department has 3 staff rooms. The department has 14 labs, a department library, a department Electrical stores, an Electrical workshop and a central Computer lab. The first batch started with intake capacity of 40 students in Electrical Engineering, still the capacity of students is same and 20% of 40 i.e. 8 students are admitted in III Sem through lateral entry so total intake from III Sem is 48.

Mechanical Engineering Department is situated in the main building at ground floor with Laboratories, Classrooms, Staff- Rooms, Stores etc. Our first HOD, Dr A C Rao, was instrumental in setting up and developing the ME department with core laboratories and facilities. Following regular faculty is working at present in the department.Several equipments, software and application packages are available for students like computerized UTM, computerized petrol/diesel engine test rigs, refrigeration and air conditioning trainer kits, ANSYS, Solid Edge, FEMAP, nx7.0 for computer aided engineering, etc. Regular training programs and workshops are organized for students in Robotics and other areas and students are encouraged to participate in such events. Mechanical Engg. Deptt. has following laboratories for conducting experiments as per RGPV curriculum.

Electronics & Communication Engineering is one of the main and core trade working along all the branches, since 1984 in “Rewa Engineering College”.Department is situated in a separate building with Laboratories, Classrooms , Seminar Hall, Staff- Rooms, Stores etc. Initially Department was developed under the guidance and supervision of Dr. S. K. Paranjape (Retd. Director of Technical Education).Several Software & Application packages are available for students like MATLAB, Tina,Xiling, Verilog,etc. Different Workshops are organized and students are inspired to attend ROBOTICS, EMMBEDED Systems and MATLAB workshops. For gaining industrial working experience students are sent for Vocational Training in several reputed electronics companies. E & C Engg. Dptt. has following laboratories for practical works.

Admissions
- B.E.:- Admissions to B.E. degree courses were done on the basis of performance in the State level Pre-Engineering Test, MP-PET conducted every year by the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board Bhopal and All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). 80% of total seats in each branch were filled by candidates of MP-PET and the remaining 20% by the candidates of AIEEE. But from 2014 onwards, admissions are carried out on the basis of Joint Entrance Exam conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education.[6]
- B.E.(PTDC):- For the in-service personnel holding a diploma in engineering, Part Time Degree Courses (PTDC) of four-year duration are being run in the evenings. These courses were started with an intake of 20 students in each of the core branches i.e. Civil, Electrical and Mechanical departments.

- All the courses are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi and recognised by the Directorate of Technical Education Madhya Pradesh.[7][8]
- The institute is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation of All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi for the undergraduate degrees of Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Electronics & Telecommunication departments.[9]
- Rewa Engineering College was Rated as India's Top Promising Engineering Colleges of Excellence in CSR-GHRD Engineering College Survey 2011.[10]
- Rewa Engineering College got second rank in Madhyapradesh CSR-GHRDC Engineering Colleges Survey 2010.,[11]
Scholarships and prizes
- Central / State Governments' scholarships for the welfare and promotion of ST, SC, OBC and the child of landless agricultural labour and wards who are below the poverty line.
- Physically challenged candidates are provided with scholarships.
- The students who are toppers in their branches in the seventh semester are awarded a gold medal.
Alumni Association
The Alumni Association of engineering college Rewa came into existence on 22-01-1983. In 1988 the alumni association along with the student's union of the college celebrated the Silver Jubilee of the college in a grand manner.
In June 2003 few old students of Rewa Engineering College met at Rewa and decided to restructure the alumni association in legal form. The association got registered under the Firms & Societies Act. In 2004 we celebrated 40th anniversary of college. Various regional chapters of the association in India and abroad have been quite active and many get-togethers and events have been organised in past few years.College mono was designed by Prabhat Shrivastava, an Alumni from the first batch, 1964.
The objectives of association are:
- To establish and maintain an alumni association structure - board, chapters, batch representatives that will enable in the smooth governance of the association
- To inspire alumni to enhance the leadership of the Institute and stay connected
- To provide a focal point of contact among alumni to interact and network with each other
- To support the institute with resources that it will need for its various activities
- To strengthen ties between the Institute and alumni and encourage them to participate in the various cultural and social activities[12]

Extra-Curricular Activities
GEC Rewa is the hub of various curricular, extra-curricular and technical activities which attracts students to participate.In recent years various technical workshops, seminars and social events are organized by the students. Other than that in 2013 GEC Rewa Students were finalist of an event (Reformnation) in Techfest'14 IIT Bombay.They secured 10th rank across the country among 88 Colleges and outperformed different NITs and BITS Pilani. NIT Srinagar was the only NIT which was above GEC Rewa.
In 2015 GEC Rewa students not only make it to the finals of Tryst'15- (Annual Science & Technology festival of IIT Delhi), the team was at the top of the table competing with more than 90+ colleges across the nation. Students have also participated in different college festivals such as[21]

National Service Scheme (NSS)
[23] This activity was introduced in the college for the first time in the year 2011-2012. It has carried out various activities for students as well as society. Through NGO's, students of NSS unit have participated in plantation on the college and hostel campus.[24]
Golden Jubilee Celebration
Rewa Engineering College has completed its 50 years of rich life in 2014. The Golden Jubilee was a great occasion for all alumni to renew their contacts with the alma mater, meet old friends, recall the good old times, and familiarize themselves with the growth of the institution over the years. It has also give the ex-staff members the opportunity to meet their past students, and the present batches on the campus. General body of the Alumni Association, College Authorities, and Students of the College hosted a mega function to mark this occasion.GEC Rewa become the 4th institute in madhyapradesh to complete its 50 years, other three institutes are MANIT Bhopal and Jabalpur Engineering College and SGSITS Indore. In the golden Jubilee year more than 1000 alumni from India as well as from Abroad participated with their families and children.
