Government College of Engineering, Karad (GCEK) (Marathi: शासकीय अभियांत्रिकी महाविद्यालय, कराड) is a technical institute in Maharashtra state in India. It is affiliated to the Shivaji University and was established in 1960.[1][2] The campus is on 40 acres. Karad is a culturally vibrant town and is a center of education in Western Maharashtra.
The institute offers undergraduate programs in five disciplines (Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering) and postgraduate programs in five areas of specialization (Structural Engineering and Construction Management in Civil Engineering, Heat Power and Production in Mechanical Engineering and Power System in Electrical Engineering) besides the MCA course.
The postgraduate courses receive financial support from AICTE. All the courses are recognized by AICTE and the government of Maharashtra and are affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur.
Over the years the college has produced about 7200 engineers and more than 300 computer professionals through a Master of Computer Application course in the Engineering faculty under Shivaji University.
Admissions
Undergraduate
The admissions to the college are governed by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE). The DTE previously hold the all Maharashtra State level MH-CET (Maharashtra Common Entrance Test), which was a compulsory examination to admission in engineering (from 2005 to 2013). From 2014 onwards, The Score of All India JEE Main (Paper 1) and HSC Marks shall be considered for preparing the merit and admission purpose (as per the maharashtra Government Resolution Dt. 31 Oct 2012).[3]
Post-Graduate
In 2013, Admissions are given on the basis of both GATE 2013 and DTE-held PGET-CET 2013 basis.[4] From 2014 onwards, all the admissions will be given on the basis of GATE 2014 score.[5]

Library
All the departments are equipped with laboratory facilities. The Central library has 6000 text/reference books in the relevant disciplines of engineering. Every department has its own departmental library, maintained by students through their respective associations.
Training and Placement Cell
The institute also has a Training & Placement Cell, Entrepreneurship Development Cell, Gymkhana and NSS cell. The institute has received grants from AICTE, New Delhi under MODROB, TAPTEC and IIPC schemes.
Events
"Aavishkar", a national level paper presentation competition, which is managed by students, showcases the managerial and technical skills of the students.
