The Government Accountability Institute (GAI) is a conservative investigative research organization located in Tallahassee, Florida. GAI was founded in 2012.[2] Peter Schweizer serves as the group's president.[3]
Mission
The mission of GAI is to "investigate and expose crony capitalism, misuse of taxpayer monies, and other governmental corruption or malfeasance." [4]
Activities
In October 2012, GAI released a report claiming that the Obama campaign had been illegally soliciting foreign donations.[5][6]
In December 2013, a GAI analysis found that from July 12, 2010, to November 30, 2013, President Obama's public schedule showed zero one-on-one meetings between Obama and then-Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius.[7] Subsequently, The Hill submitted FOIA requests for non-public White House documents which recorded extensive scheduling of appointments including Obama and Sebelius in the period referenced by GAI.[8]
In July 2014, GAI reported that $1 billion in school lunches is thrown away each year.[9]
Board of directors
Members of GAI's board of directors include GAI President Peter Schweizer, Stuart Christmas, Stephen Bannon, Owen Smith, Ron Robinson, Rebekah Mercer, and Hunter Lewis.[10]
